Physical Culture is the best place to go if you want to get strong long term. The group setting was super helpful for me because not only was everyone very welcoming and non judgmental, they also check in on each other and help with the accountability aspect of the gym. Jeremy is really good at connecting people.

Jeremy is super knowledgeable and hard working. He is experienced and always has modifications if you need to modify for any reason. His programming is methodical and if you show up, you will get stronger. Tell him your goals, and he will help you get there. He cares about the people that come in and he wants you to be successful.

I tell everyone I know about Jeremy and Physical Culture.

Jeremy Layport is a great strength coach. He focuses on mobility to ensure that his athletes can lift safely and without injury. I’ve been training with him for 8 months and I’ve reached goals that I never would have thought I would be capable of.

This gym is hands-down the best if you're serious about building strength, improving technique, and growing your overall fitness. Jeremy is a fantastic trainer who prioritizes proper form and movement while expanding your lifting knowledge in all areas. Since training here, I’ve improved my form and increased my strength in all major power lifts. On top of that, Jeremy has taught me how to use kettlebells effectively and introduced me to Olympic movements, giving me a well-rounded skill set. If you’re looking for efficient, sustainable progress in your strength, skills, and longevity, this is the place to be!

I have grown so much stronger in just a few months of working out! I am in my 40's and have a few sports injuries. Jeremy respected my limitations and helped me build my strength in a safe way. I was recovering from a bicep injury and he did stretches that greatly increased my range of motion.

He is a brilliant teacher and an awesome guy! He is funny while keeping each workout very professional and highly effective. He is definitely the best trainer I have ever worked with!

As a new student at Physical Culture I am already seeing (and feeling) the value of the program and expertise. Jeremy does a great job listening to feedback about pain points or other fitness challenges and adapts his teaching and coaching style to best address those challenges. Even though it’s a group setting, I feel like I’m getting 1:1 focus on MY fitness needs. I would highly recommend Physical Culture if you’re looking for a (new) way to challenge and improve your physical fitness goals.

I have been a member of numerous gyms here in the North County, and Physical Culture has by far been the best experience of the group. Jeremy has the experience and knowledge to help the most seasoned of athletes, to the most novice. He actually pays attention (which many trainers do not) and helps you make the adjustments necessary for your success. The programming is solid! I attend the 5AM group, and it is by far the best part of my day.

FAQS

Can I try a class before committing to a membership?

Absolutely! We offer your first class free, allowing you to experience our programs and environment without any commitment. This is a great opportunity for you to see if our training style and community are a good fit for your fitness journey. We encourage you to take advantage of this offer and join us for your complimentary class!

What is the difference between "Adult Strength & Conditioning" and "Senior Strength" classes?

All our Physical Culture classes aim to increase strength, but they cater to different fitness levels and age groups. The Adult Strength & Conditioning classes are designed for adults typically aged 30 to 45. In contrast, the Senior Strength class is tailored for individuals aged 55 and older, including those recovering from athletic injuries, allowing participants to build strength at their own pace.

Is Physical Culture a crossfit or similar to a crossfit gym?

No, we are not a CrossFit gym. While both emphasize functional fitness, our approach focuses on StrongFirst principles, prioritizing foundational strength with low-impact, lower-repetition exercises using heavier weights. This helps minimize soreness and lowers injury risk, supporting long-term fitness. Although we occasionally incorporate higher reps, they are structured within specific cycles. Unlike CrossFit's often competitive nature, our environment is positive and encouraging, catering to diverse goals—from beginners aiming to achieve their first pull-up to elite athletes pursuing personal records. We emphasize progress without ego lifting, ensuring members grow without exceeding their physical limits.

How do you accommodate new students that haven't lifted before or have a limited range of motion?

At Physical Culture, we recognize that each individual arrives at their own fitness level. We assess each member at the start of their journey and tailor weight and repetitions accordingly. We also modify exercises to meet specific needs, ensuring that everyone can work towards their goals and become stronger, regardless of their starting point.

How often do your workout cycles change?

Our classes our set up with a specific structured cycle, typically lasting four weeks. Each cycle is designed to be unique and focuses on the overall progression of strength for all participants, regardless of their fitness level. After completing a cycle, a new one begins, ensuring a fresh and engaging experience.

How do you track progress in the strength and conditioning programs?

At Physical Culture, we personalize your experience by providing individual weight and repetition sheets. These sheets help you monitor your progress as you advance through each program cycle, ensuring you can see your improvements over time.

Are the workouts tailored to individual goals and needs?

While our classes are group-oriented and follow the same general outline of lifts and cycles, we do individualize specific lifts for each participant. For example, if the class is doing a weighted hinge, we provide acceptable alternatives (kettlebell, barbell, bodyweight or dumbbell) and adjust the number of repetitions based on each individual's personal fitness journey and any specific injuries that may require further modification.

What are the current membership options?

Currently we offer the following membership options with the ability to choose a schedule of 2x, 3x, 4x , or 5x a week: "Adult Strength & Conditioning", "Athletic Development", & "Senior Strength". We also offer personal one on one sessions for interested parties. Hit the "Join" button in the navigation for pricing.

How do current members reserve or book a class?

Once you become a member you will be given a link with your logins. When logged in, you can simply book your first class using the "book a class" option in the main navigation. We appreciated it when our members reserve their classes as it helps us keep an eye on the week and size of our classes.
